海濱的小屋里，年輕的納爾太太帶著10個(gè)月的女嬰西芙拉，在寂寞中等待著在巴黎工作的丈夫。一個(gè)陌生的女游客出現(xiàn)在她的窗前，要求在她家門前的露天借一塊地方搭帳篷。納爾太太猶豫著答應(yīng)了。晚上，她還請(qǐng)女游客共進(jìn)晚餐，并在飯桌上回憶起當(dāng)年單身時(shí)旅行的奇遇。隨著漸漸熟悉，兩個(gè)女人帶著 孩子一起去海濱、一起進(jìn)餐，納爾太太大度地讓女游客使用自己的衛(wèi)生間，對(duì)方也在納爾太太進(jìn)城時(shí)幫她照顧孩子。彼此間還有了一點(diǎn)微妙的吸引。兩人也有各自的秘密。幾天后的一個(gè)早上，納爾先生回來了，屋里空無一人。不遠(yuǎn)處，一艘行駛的游輪熙熙攘攘，一位女性抱著號(hào)啕大哭的西芙拉望著大海......
