 一顆隕石撞擊蘇格蘭偏遠(yuǎn)森林，意外喚醒了自尼安德特人時(shí)代就蟄伏地底、以骨骼為食的遠(yuǎn)古克蘇魯式怪獸 “守骨異獸”。1976 年，調(diào)查者詹姆斯?惠勒深入洞穴后離奇失蹤，僅留下一張怪獸剪影的 8mm 膠片。數(shù)十年后，他的孫女奧利維亞為尋找同樣失蹤的母親，帶領(lǐng)一群好友與怪獸專家哈里斯教授，深入洞穴系統(tǒng)調(diào)查連環(huán)失蹤案，卻不知自己正被這只地底生物步步獵殺，陷入絕境求生的獵殺游戲。
