Ay?e, Ali, Mehmet and Zeynep are middle-class millennials struggling to make ends meet in Istanbul. Either still living with their parents or hardly getting by without help from their families, they are all beset by similar woes: money crunch, joblessness, social isolation. In view of the world’s horrors that Zeynep enumerates in her diary entries, these are minor problems, ‘slight disasters’, but they are all-consuming, at least to the extent of making them cry in the still of the night. 　　However, Umut Subasi’s first feature, Almost Entirely a Slight Disaster, is not a melodrama. With an appealingly light touch, it diagnoses the malaise of a generation that has run up against a dead end, one whose future prospects are indistinguishable from a game of chance. This is a world where astrology, the lottery and online personality tests compete with visa and job applications as life-shaping elements. 　　Fittingly, the film is structured around chance and coincidence, with its handful of characters encountering each other in every permutation, as though there were no world outside this small social bubble.  根據徐貴祥同名小說改編。 鐵匠的兒子石平陽帶著父親的囑托參軍來到炮兵部隊。他的一股沖勁，受到營長莊必川的喜愛，老班長李四虎更喜歡石平陽不服輸的勁頭。李四虎是技術尖子，他對新戰士訓練十分嚴格，新戰士進步很快。他把石平陽視作接班人，要在自己退伍之前把經驗全部傳授給石平陽，甚至以故意裝病，讓石平陽獨立完成訓練課目。石平陽進步很快，年終還榮立了三等功。和他一起入伍的女兵張媚對他也另眼看待。教導隊招收骨干，進教導隊就能報考軍校，成為軍官。營長擔心比武缺了石平陽影響成績，因此改派與石平陽一同入伍的王北風去了教導隊。機會得而復失，石平陽有些想不通。父親去世了，指導員讓他回家料理，但他走到半路，想起父親的囑托，毅然返回連隊。李四虎復員了，石平陽接任班長，他把老班長的好傳統全部繼承下來，愛兵、愛炮、愛部隊，技術精益求精。同時入伍的王北風和張媚進了軍校，石平陽仍然當班長。排長調走了，石平陽任代理排長，這時，他入伍已有八年。團里為了留住他，讓他準備報考軍校。就在這時，新戰士劉發展一封雖事出有因但嚴重失實的告狀信，使他又失去了上軍校的機會。石平陽要復員了，副團長莊必川舍不得他離開，從車站把他接回，團黨委特別決定把他留下。石平陽又回到排里，他對劉發展更嚴格、更耐心訓練和要求，使劉發展深感內疚。幾年后，參謀王北風到部隊檢查工作，見到石平陽仍是上士，不免生出許多感觸。在集團軍的軍事演習中，石平陽指揮火炮群的準確射擊，令首長和指揮員們贊嘆不已。石平陽多年操縱的火炮由新式火炮取代了，他雖有些戀戀不舍，但他立即和戰友們開始學習掌握新的火炮，迎接新的挑戰。不久，石平陽被破格提拔為中尉連長。
