本片講述了性格火辣爽直的李雙雙（張瑞芳 飾）愛管閑事，對自私愛貪生產隊便宜的人直言快語當面指責。她的丈夫孫喜旺（仲星火 飾）卻和她相反，膽小怕事愛面子還大男子主義。生產隊修水渠，李雙雙和幾個閑著在家沒事的婦女去參加勞動，喜旺大為惱火叫李雙雙在家做飯看孩子伺候他。為此，兩 人大吵了一架。雙雙向生產隊提意見，反應對婦女評工分計分混亂不認真，又向公社黨委揭發當記工員的喜旺、副隊長金樵(劉非 飾）和社員孫有（崔文順 飾）干活不負責任、投機取巧多記工分。她被群眾選上了婦女隊長后，喜旺怕以后管不了雙雙，給她約法三章，雙雙不答應，喜旺生氣離家趕著馬車去搞運輸了。孫有夫婦攀高枝要把女兒桂英嫁到城里去，桂英早有喜歡的人了，跑去找雙雙幫忙把來相親的對象打發走。孫有老婆找到雙雙大鬧，正好讓剛回家的喜旺碰上，喜旺再次生氣離家......　　本片曾于1963年獲第2屆《大眾電影》百花獎最佳故事片獎、最佳編劇獎，最佳女演員獎，最佳配角獎。

 《月光男孩》導演巴里·杰金斯日前敲定新片，他將把知名作家詹姆斯·鮑德溫的小說《假若比爾街能夠講話》(If Beale Street Could Talk)搬上大銀幕，故事設定于上世紀70年代的紐約哈林區，主角是一對剛訂婚的年輕情侶芬尼(Fonny)和蒂什(Tish)。芬尼被誣告強奸，而身懷六甲的蒂什將四處奔走尋找證據證明丈夫的清白。梅根·埃里森創立的安納普爾納將投資本片，也將和《月光男孩》制片公司Plan B、杰金斯本人的Pastel工作室一同制作本片，10月開拍。
